Abortion is killing the future Abortion is a controversial issue affecting our society. At the present time abortions are legal. However, there are groups of people who would like this to change. Popular belief among pro-choice coalitions is that abortion is a matter that should be decided on by the mother; however, abortion in its truest sense is the termination of a human life. As a society we must set clear boundaries about this issue or else we will be ending innocent lives or we will face women having abortion as a substitute for birth control.
Both sides provide very strong and debatable opinions, which leads to a frenzy of controversy. Abortion should be illegal because abortions are immoral, they contradict many religious teachings, and abortions are a large health risk to women. Many moral conflicts exist when dealing with abortion. Abortion is sometimes used as a financial reason, 75% of people say that they just can’t afford a child; others say that having a baby would interfere with work, school, etc. (Abortion as Birth Control 1).
On the other hand 50% do not want to be a single parent or/and have problem with their husband/partner (Abortion as Birth Control 1). In the case of Roe v. Wade the court stated, “State laws limiting such access during the second trimester were upheld only when the restrictions were for the purpose of protecting the health of the pregnant woman (Roe v. Wade 1). ” None of that would happen if they used birth control in the first place, about 8% of women or couples never used a method of birth control (Abortion as Birth Control 1). Some women are using abortion as birth control, and that is not healthy.
There are so many different types of birth control they could use, and there are also different options people could choose other than abortion. There are so many couples out there that want to adopt a baby, but they have to be on a waiting list. Maybe some people would not be so careless if abortion was illegal. Major supports of pro-life are from moral ethics and religious teachings. The largest Christian group, which is the Roman Catholic Church, has always condemned abortion as a grave evil. They believe that life begins once conception is made, and it is agreed upon for most people. In the case of

Reproductive health services public employees or facilities were not be used as abortions unless it was necessary to safe the mother, because there believes are also that life beings at conception (Webster v. Reproductive health services 1). It is a sin to murder; they teach the young ones that abortion is a form of murder, the situation or conditions that lead up to the pregnancy does not matter. If a medical procedure is needed that involves the death of the fetus as an accidental side effect; this is the only exception. About 1% of abortions are done because of the mother’s health. Steinmetz 3) Abortions are also performed for social and financial reasons. Abortion harms more than just one person it hurts two, abortion can lead to many medical and psychological complications such as infection, miscarriages, depression, etc. Most of the women who have an abortion regret it; they are left with guilt, and emotionally scarred for life. One woman had an abortion and she says, “For 15 years I couldn’t forgive myself, now I suffer from alcoholism, depression and insurmountable guilt and mourning. ” (CBR / Does Abortion Hurt Women 12).
In some cases women feel so lonely and are filled with guilt that they can’t live with it and they take their own life. The risk of death from suicide is two to six times higher for women who have had abortion when compared with women who have given birth (Bachiochi 2). A study published in a recent edition of the Journal of Anxiety Disorders found that women who aborted their unintended pregnancies were 30% more likely to subsequently report all the symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder than those women who had carried their unintended pregnancies to term (Bachiochi 1).
The rate of mental health claims for women who aborted their babies was 17% higher (Bachiochi 1). Not only can it affect women’s emotional state, it can also physically harm them. Females are at a higher risk to catching diseases and having injury inflicted upon them due to abortions. According to a 2003 article in the Obstetrical and Gynecological Survey, studies show that induced abortion increases the risk of placenta pervia by 50 percent and doubles the risk of pre-term labor in later pregnancies (Bachiochi 2). More studies prove without a doubt that a link between abortion and breast cancer exists.
Teenagers especially are at risk to breast cancer when considering an abortion. This shows that young women, who are delaying their first full-term pregnancy through abortion, are at a high risk for breast cancer (Bachiochi 2). If a woman artificially terminates her pregnancy at a time when her breast cells have been exposed to high levels of potentially cancer-initiating estrogen, as is the procedure of having an abortion, then she is highly susceptible to breast cancer (Bachiochi 2). The link between abortion and breast cancer is very frightening.
Women who were fertile and go get an abortion can go infertile because of complications from the abortion. The women who want to keep their abortion in private go to the doctor to get an abortion pill thinking that it won’t be the same as getting it done at the hospital or the clinic. The abortion pill involves taking two drugs called the mifepristone and prostaglandin; it has 48 hours apart process (Abortion 2). There are side effects on it just like getting an abortion in the clinic with a doctor, it is a very painful and women feel sick.
Women that already have gonorrhea or Chlamydia are more likely to suffer from pelvic inflammatory disease which that will cause infertility (Do Abortions Cause Infertility 3). It’s no doubt that special care is required when dealing with rape cases, especially when considering the option of abortion. The anxiety and pressure the victim of the rape must feel is beyond any of us. Many people argue that abortion is the solution to such cases, claiming that it would cause relief and lift a burden from the unwilling mother.
It is a mistake, however, to simply assume that the mother will desire an abortion to supposedly ease her problems. In an effort to raise awareness, a group of members from Harvard Right to Life put up posters in student housing saying “Women Deserve Better”, one of which featured a victim of rape name “Candice,” who explains how she regretted getting an abortion. She tells how she suffered because she was led to believe that it was okay to end her child’s life because she was rape. The posters included crises centers contact information for unplanned pregnancies.
It is commonly assumed that rape victims who become pregnant would naturally want an abortion. In a major study of pregnant rape victims ever done, found that 75 to 85 percent chose against abortion (Kaufman 2). This evidence alone should cause people to pause and reflect on the presumption that abortion is wanted or even best for sexual assault victims (Kaufman 2). Several reasons are given for not abortion; first, approximately 70% of all women believe abortion is immoral, even though many feel it should be legal choice for other (Kaufman 2).
Approximately the same percentage believes abortion would be just another act of violence against their bodies and their children (Kaufman 2). Abortion is bad in all cases, it causes negative side effect and it is morally wrong but it is sadly continues to happen. Abortion is killing the future and it can be prevented so it should be banned. There are so many people other there that believe in pro-life and will continue to fight for the rights of the unborn children.
