In this case, the student athlete becomes driven to do better in their sport in order to become sponsored by the alumni or an outside source. Either way, the opportunity for higher education is there as long as the student continues to work hard and maintain their scholastics for funding purposes. The end result is that the student receives a paid education, something that they may not have had if the circumstances were different. For the families of student athletes and the community, they carry a bigger role in their success than the athlete themselves.

The families, especially the ones that are closer to the athlete, provide moral support in order to keep them motivated. Encouragement is given at an early age when the student is playing in the Pee Wee league, Tee-Ball or Soccer. The parents can be a big endorser for the student by motivating, encouraging and attending their games. Just seeing family members on the sideline, screaming their name, pushing them to “Go, Go, Go”, can drive them to do better. They can also help the athlete with making the right decisions when negative influences are presented such as drugs, sex, alcohol, etc.

Family morals play a significant role in the success of student athletes. They must keep positive influences close in order to stay on the right path such as love, motivation, discipline, support, etc. For the community, supporting their student athletes gives them something to come together for by attending games. These students need the support of both their family and the community in order to stay motivated. The simple statements like “Good job” or “Great Game” and even wearing the athlete’s jersey can do a lot to keep that student motivated.

The athlete will need to feel there are people that care for their well-being and not just the profile of being a high school athlete. Without moral support from their family and the community, the student athlete may succumb to the negative influences that come with sports. If this happens, their career in sports may be shattered. There are many responsibilities that come with being a high school athlete that are beneficial to the student in school and in their personal life. As quoted by Sir Winston Churchill, “The price of greatness is responsibility”. As a student athlete, you have to be responsible for many things.

You are to be responsible for you actions, whether they are good or bad. A student athlete should learn responsibility from home first. They should be responsible for keeping their grades up, going to school, attending practices, performing at an appropriate level according to their sport. There are a number of responsibilities required and a student athlete must be strong-willed in order to be successful. By learning responsibility at the high school level, this training should carry on at the college and professional level if the athlete chooses to continue.

Not only will the student be successful in sports, they will practice responsibility in their career and personal life. Being responsible in sports teaches the student to be prompt by attending practices on time. They show dedication by attending practices, games and working hard. They show responsibility by attending their classes and keeping their grades at a passing level. If the student athlete does not possess these qualities, they may suffer by failing at sports and in their education. The student has to be responsible for their own actions. They must learn that it is their decision whether they will do well or fail.

In conclusion, high school sports can be a great opportunity for students who have a special talent in sports and can benefit from it. Being offered scholarships to attend college is a great accomplishment for any student. For some, this is the only way they may obtain a higher education. So, in order to achieve this, they must be responsible by working hard in sports and school. Their family and community have a responsibility as well by providing moral support to keep the student motivated. The end result will be a man or woman that is successful in their professional, athletic and personal life.
