Photosynthesis takes place in the leaves of the plant.
Where does photosynthesis happens?
Tiny holes in the bottom of the leaf that allows carbon dioxide to enter the leaf.
Stomata
chloroplast
Which cell organelle does photosynthesis occur?
Glucose+ Oxygen = Carbon Dioxide+ Water+ ATP
Cellular Respiration Equation
Mitochondria
Which cell organelle does cellular respiration occur?
Aerobic and Anaerobic Respiration
What two parts is Cellular Respiration divided into?
When oxygen is required. Oxygen and glucose go into the mitochondria and 36 ATP are made.
Aerobic Respiration
Doesn’t require oxygen. Happens in the Mitochondria
Anaerobic Respiration
Lactic Acid Fermentation and Alcoholic Fermentation
What two types of Anaerobic Respiration is there?
Occurs in animal cells when oxygen is absent. For example, rapid periods of exercise when the body cannot supply enough oxygen to the tissues/muscles; the body begins to produce lactic acid which causes the muscles to feel pain/fatigue.
Lactic Acid Fermentation
Occurs in plant cells and yeast in the absence of oxygen. It produces alcohol and carbon dioxide. Used to make bread, beer, and wine
Alcoholic Fermentation
Aerobic produces 38 ATP while Anaerobic only produces 2
Which produces more ATP, Aerobic or Anaerobic?
ATP is the universal energy molecule for cells. Its made Ribose, Adenine, and Phosphate. Glucose goes into the Mitochondria which creates ATP. In order for it to release energy, the phosphate bond must be broken.
Once the bond is broken energy is released. Turning into an ADP.
ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)
In order to add a Phosphate bond to the ADP, energy from food is needed. Food provides the energy to add a “p” back on recreating an ATP
ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate)
glucose is broken down and 2 ATP are made. This process does NOT require oxygen! Glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm. Type of Anaerobic Respiration.
Glycolysis
All organisms!!! Plants have mitochondria and chloroplast so they can do both.
Which types of organisms undergo cellular respiration?
