Chapter 1 Science Test

Question Answer
1. List the steps of the Scientific Method. Ask a question, Hypothesis, Experiment, Record Data, Conclusion, Communicate results
2. In your own words, describe the jobs of a life scientist and where they may work. Physicians-Hospitals and Labs, Botanists, Zoologists-Zoo, Teachers,-Schools, Microbiologists-Labs, Environmentalists- Government.
3. Which units of measurement would most likely be used to measure length, mass, and volume of the following items? Pencil Length=centimeters (cm) Mass/Weight=grams (g) Volume=mL
3. Which units of measurement would most likely be used to measure length, mass, and volume of the following items? Apple Length=centimeters (cm) Mass/Weight=grams (g) Volume=mL
3. Which units of measurement would most likely be used to measure length, mass, and volume of the following items? Marble Length=millimeters (mm) Mass/Weight=grams (g) Volume=mL
3. Which units of measurement would most likely be used to measure length, mass, and volume of the following items? Car Length=dekameters (dekm) Mass/Weight=grams (Kg) Volume=Decm cubed
3. Which units of measurement would most likely be used to measure length, mass, and volume of the following items? Lab Desk Length=meters (m) Mass/Weight=kilo-grams (Kg) Volume=m cubed
3. Which units of measurement would most likely be used to measure length, mass, and volume of the following items? Soccer Ball Length=cenimeters (cm) Mass/Weight=kilo-grams (Kg) Volume=cm cubed
4. What is a hypothesis? Clear statement of what you expect the answer to your question to be.
5. What are the scientific tools used for measuring mass, volume, and length? Mass =Triple beam balance, Volume =graduated cylinder, Length=meter stick
6. What is an Independent Variable? The factor that is being tested. If I pay attention in science class then I will earn a good grade. Independent Variable is Paying Attention.
7. What is Dependent Variable? The factor that is being measured in the experiment.
DRY, Dependent, Result, analYze.
8. What is a Control Group? The subjects that are not being tested. They remain the same. They are used as a comparison against the subjects being tested.
9. What are Constants? The factors that do not change. They are no being tested, but stay the same.
10. Describe 2 reasons why scientists use the Metric System instead of the English System. 1. Easier to use. Everything is based on units of ten.
2. International Standard, used all over the world.
