Chapter 17 test

Question Answer
What is a parallel circuit and how does it work? A circuit in which the parts are joined in branches . Each load in a parallel circuit uses the same voltage.
What is a series circuit and how does it work. A circuit in which all parts are connected in a single loop. It works through only one path way and is there is a break the circuit won't work any more.
What happens to the current and resistance during a short circuit? The current will increase while the resistance will decrease.
What happens to a circuit when the switch is closed? Closing a switch in an electrical circuit will complete the circuit. The supply voltage will then be applied to that circuit, and current will flow through that circuit.
What is an electric force An electric force is a retroactive or repulsive force between two objects.
What is an electric field? An electric field is a vector field that associates to each point in space the Coulomb force experienced by a unit electric charge.
What is a proton? A proton is a subatomic particle, symbol p or p+, with a positive electric charge
What is an electron? The electron is a subatomic particle, symbol e? or ??, with a negative elementary electric charge.
What is an electrical insulator? A object that resist a current.
What is an electrical conductor? A object that currents go through easily.
What three parts make up a circuit. source, line and load
What does each part do? The source is were the energy is coming from. The line is how the electron travel to the load. The load is the were the electrons are going to.
What is friction? 1.the resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving over another.
What is induction? An electrical insulator is a material whose internal electric charges do not flow freely
What is convection? 1.the movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material to rise, and colder, denser material to sink under the influence of gravity, which consequently results in transfer of heat
