Essay Question: Compare the political regime type in China and the United States. Which of the two would you prefer to do business in and why? China and United States have different views on what is best for their country. Both China and United States have different political systems. Both countries have experienced a dynamic development and process of economic reform and social modernisation (reference). Civil society organisations are also important to the stability and growth of a country’s government, however they are often taken for granted.

This essay will identify both China and United State’s political regime type and outline the main characteristics that determine their government system. The essay will then compare and contract China and United State’s view on their civil society organisations and the positive and negative impact those organisations have on the government. The essay will conclude with a decision on which country has the most beneficial political regime in the business viewpoint.

Both China and United States have experienced dramatic change on economic and social matters throughout the years. China is indentified as been a Single-party Communist government. China survived the critical period after 1989 and has been grown in strength, unlike other post-Communist countries (reference). But rather than being rigidly hierarchical and authoritarian, which is often the assumption, political power in China now is diffuse, complex, and at times highly competitive (Martin, 2010).

Although many will argue that Chinese Communist Party (CCP) still holds the most power (reference). Even though other minor political parties exist, they still operate and are authorised under the CCP, which ultimately means they are powerless (Martin, 2010). No independently organized and established political parties are tolerated, therefore, effectively making the China a one-party state.
