Compare and Contrast Essay

April 26, 2010 Wal-Mart VS. Target When it came to shopping, I used to go to two stores, Wal-Mart and Target. Now I just go to Wal-Mart. Between the two of these stores, Wal-Mart is definitely the best, not to mention the most beneficial. They have everything you need and more. Who wouldn’t love a store that has the best customer service, quality and much more? The prices at Wal-Mart are always low. They even price match other stores. This means if you bring in a sales paper with for instance, a microwave that’s $45 and Wal-Mart has the same one for $65, they will sell it to you for $45.

If they have something marked lower than what it really is they sell it to you for that price, even if it’s a big difference. You definitely get more for your money at Wal-Mart. The atmosphere at Wal-Mart is over all pretty amazing. They usually have their products in the right spots and their sizes are organized well. Every time I am in Wal-Mart I see the sales associates putting up stock as soon as it gets off the truck. They even have a clearance isle that’s completely organized. The whole store seems to be really clean. The bathrooms are rarely dirty and they always have air freshener in them.

I come into Wal-Mart at least twice a week and I see the janitor in there one out of the two times. The service is delightful. The door greeters are usually extra friendly. I have even had a buggy pusher help me put groceries in my car. Sometimes if the buggy guys see you putting groceries in your car, he will come over to you and get the buggy so you don’t have to take it back. This is really helpful for me because I have two kids. The sales associates are so helpful. If you can’t find what you’re looking for or maybe you don’t know what you’re looking for, there are always plenty of sales associates around to help.

Even when it’s time to check out, the cashiers are very pleasant. The quality of Wal-Mart’s products is great. They have many name brand items. They also offer their Great Value brand. It’s just as good as the name brand. Their clothes and shoes are just as durable. The food is just as good, and their toys are just as cool. They’re pretty good about having a Great Value brand of everything. If they don’t have it in they can tell you when the next truck comes in with it. They also do site-to-site store shipping on most of their products.

Site-to-site is my favorite because in my town our Wal-Mart is not a Super Wal-Mart and some of the other stores have many more products. When I think Target, I think high prices. They have the same stuff as Wal-Mart and some other stores. The only difference is their prices are marked up. They are normally three to five dollars over on their products compared to most stores. Their toys, make up, and clothes are the most expensive. Even their generic brand is pricey and they don’t offer a lot of products. Target’s atmosphere is normally a mess. It’s difficult to find anything in that store.

Every time I go in there they have changed everything around. During the holidays it’s the worst. I wouldn’t dare go in there then. I did last year around Christmas and it was so packed you couldn’t move. Only half the registers were open and it was a huge disaster. The bathrooms, well I don’t even think they have a janitor anymore. I’ve never seen so much toilet paper on the floor in my life. The service in Target is by far the worst. They don’t have door greeters. There are always buggies everywhere, in the parking lot, on the front sidewalk, and all over the store.

The cashiers seem like they’re in a hurry to get you out of the store. Very seldom will I meet a friendly cashier. Every time I need help with something I can’t find anybody and if I do they don’t work in that section, which means that I have to wait until they find somebody else. Honestly, not many people have the time to wait around, especially if you have a busy lifestyle or if you’re in a hurry. With the quality of Target’s products being the same as Wal-Mart‘s, there is still no comparison to Wal-Mart’s well rounded store. Target may have a bigger selection on some products, but their store is such a big hassle.

To have a well managed store you need good customer service, a good atmosphere, and low prices. That’s something Target has none of and Wal-Mart has plenty of.
