Two particular poems of his, “After Apple Picking” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” are great examples of poems with the theme about nature. Although the poems have similar themes, there are some differences. “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” Is a very calm and peaceful poem that creates a very clear mental picture. You can almost touch the snow and feel the wind. Frost is very descriptive in this poem, which gives the readers a chance to uses their senses. For example, you can almost feel the snow lightly falling on you. The poem had a very simple rhyme scheme of ABA, BBC, etc.

This poem takes place in a very calm winter evening. The speaker Is in the woods outside of a village. The speaker knows of a person who lives there, but mentions he will not be stopping by, most likely for a visit, to finish watching the snow fall He has a little horse, who Is confused when they stop in the middle of nowhere. Jingling his bells for an answer, the little horse wonders why there are no farms around. The woods seem to be a very quiet and peaceful place where the speaker enjoys being. The sounds of the ‘easy wind and downy flake’, is very intriguing to the speaker, but he Insist that he must go.

He has made promises he needs to keep, and has many places to go before he sleeps. On the other hand “After Apple Picking” has a whole different look on nature. “After Apple Picking” is more of a monotonous poem. I really didn’t get whole rhyme scheme, so I’m not sure what It Is. In this poem the speaker Is a farmer on an apple tree farm. The farmer begins talking about the end of a day of a harvesting season. The farmer Is tired and has made a decision about his work. It Is an unfinished task, but he is finished doing it. I assume the task is picking apples.

The farmer, then, is ready to let go of both his apple picking and his waking state. Before dozing off, he reminiscences about his farm work from earlier that day. What falling on the ground. All fallen apples are taken to the cider apple heap. They are taken there whether they are in perfect condition or not. All the things from the work earlier in the day seem to stay in the farmer’s mind. As the thoughts keep going and going, he has trouble falling asleep. He ends up talking about how the sleep is long, like the hibernating woodchuck, or Just common like the human. It seems as though he is ready for death to come and take him away.

I really like both of the poems. I think Frost does a great Job with most of his works. He is very descriptive, and the poems seem like they are going to Jump right off of the page. You can interact with what Frost is saying; it makes you use some of your senses, especially sight and sound. These two poems make me want to try to read some more poems from Frost.
