Education is important Essay

Why College Education is Important to Me “In the past when a majority of persons never attended school past the primary level, a college education meant very little”, concluded most of the elders interviewed. This was mainly because persons were able to care for themselves and their families without attaining a college education. Not only were most persons involved with handy work which was learnt from demonstration and experience, but also, in farming, especially subsistence farming which was a very popular way in which the family was fed.

Employers of these days had very little interest in academic achievement and more interest was placed on the experience of an individual. As close back as 2010, more than 50% of employers were more likely to hire persons based their experiences rather than persons with qualifications (Woods, 2010). However, in today’s world a college education is important. All of the trades that were learnt through demonstration and experience are now being taught in schools for which qualifications are awarded. As a result, employers are no longer willing to hire persons without qualifications for the Job.

Adding to this, with every new Allendale employers plan to higher even more college graduates than before (Staffing Industry Analysts, 2013). Qualification papers such as what is awarded from college has made it very demanding on us human beings to ensure that we attain a college education in order to live our lives without wondering whether or not we will be able to provide for ourselves and loved ones. Every individual would like to know that they are able to care for themselves and their families.

No one wants to wake up in the morning wondering how they are going to make it through the day, simply because they are unemployed and there is no money. This can generate frustration and stress which can be detrimental to one’s well-being. Can all of this not be prevented if persons are able to secure a Job for which they are paid, and for that matter, a good job? Often it is said that there are no Jobs out there, however according to Wallace (2010) unemployment exists mainly because persons do not have the qualifications requested for the Jobs available.

Whereas with a college education, persons are competent to perform a specific Job which they can earn a salary that they are contended with (Wallace, 2010). According to Hardy (2013) college educates tend to e happier individuals because they are in better positions to care for themselves and their families and generally live healthier lifestyles. I have to agree with my opponents when they infer that attaining a college education may be costly. However, Mathews (2013) says that “the economic case for college is simple: college graduates make more money.

In fact, they make over $500,000 more over the course of their lifetimes, on average. That works out, as we’ve noted before, to among the best returns-on-investment around. It works out to an annual return of around 15 percent a year. These persons are now able to live comfortably with their higher salaries after making the sacrifice of paying for a college education, whereas, without a college education some may never find a Job. Furthermore, persons who earn a college education have a tendency to feel more confident on the Job market.

In agreement with the IANA College (2013), college educates know that they are now competent to 00 ten special Sods Tanat teeny apply Tort; teeny are encouraged to apply for posts at different organizations where they believe they will be happy with factors such as the working conditions and salaries. Not only do these individuals tend to express a level of freedom and experience less disrespect in the workplace, but also, they tend to feel more relaxed and secure (Hardy, 2013).

Knowing that they have what is needed to get the Job done, they are less worried about someone outperforming them at their Jobs or having to please employers in unethical and disrespectful situations in order to keep their Jobs, as stated by an interviewee. On the contrary, as supported by Wallace (2010) persons without a college degree who by some chance or other acquire Jobs feel very intimidated to leave their current Jobs in search of another. This is because they know that they will face difficulty in finding other Jobs without convincing the employer that they possess the competencies required without any qualification papers.

Consequently, these individuals are stuck in menial jobs where they are usually unhappy because of a number of reasons including not being able to support their families fully, working long hours and doing the Job of more than one person. Because they do not want to lose their Jobs, these persons endure poor working conditions and harsh treatment from their employers and co- workers. These very same persons without a college education openly expressed their desire to earn a college education because they know that it will be a life changing factor for them.

Not forgetting that everyone has goals, a college education leads you one step closer to achieving these goals. Everyone, from a very tender age begins to set their life goals. Persons choose to be different figures in their communities and society. Most if not all of these careers that persons wish to pursue begin with them attaining a college education (Mold, 2013). Have you heard of any president without a college education? In today’s world, following your dreams must land you in college at one time or another.

College education, for some persons serve as a stepping stone while others feel comfortable with the lifestyle earned from attaining a college education. This depends heavily on what path you want to take in life. Would you rather anyone build you cupboards or would you rather have it done by someone who can show that they are qualified to build you the cupboards? Today, most Jobs that were considered as menial such as attaching a knob to a door or putting up a simple shelf are now being taught at colleges.

This too has made these professions very expensive because these persons now hold qualification papers for the different Jobs. Foregoing a college education can be very depressing for persons as they may feel that they will never be successful in life (Mold, 2013). Perhaps, our children of today will never experience a comfortable life without attaining a college education as was in the past. Unlike that of the past, in this changing world of today you need to ensure that you are able to secure a good Job. Why would you want to be dependent on others day after day?
