Adopting quality management practices allows companies to ensure quality products and services (Ehow, 2010).

There are a number of quality management programs like Six Sigma, Theory of Constraint, and Total Quality Management available to companies desiring to implement the concept of quality management practices (Summers, 2008). Often the approaches and methods used to resolve quality issues differs from company to company but the ultimate goal of every company is to generate high quality products or services that meet or exceed customer expectations. The practice of quality management is important to companies for a number of reasons.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to discuss the concept of quality management in relationship to its effectiveness on two similar companies. One company operates in the domestic market and the other operates in the global market. The companies chosen to illustrate the concept of quality management are Midwest Airlines which operates in the domestic market and Qatar Airway which operates in the global market. Process Similar in Midwest Airlines and Qatar Airways Midwest Airlines and Qatar Airways are two prominent airline companies.

Both companies are performing well in regard to their service and operations. A process that is similar in both companies is the implementation of Total Quality Management for improving service and excellence in customer satisfaction. Midwest Airlines and Qatar Airways apply Total Quality Management (TQM) in the following manner: 1. Both companies have implemented a quality control program to build effective service processes in addition to applying appropriate quality and scheduling measures. Both ompanies have specific policies and plans for quality service that affect all levels of management. 2. Prior to implementing the quality control program, both companies conduct an evaluation to access their products and services. Additionally, both companies evaluate customer demand and the company’s budget. 3. Both companies chose to formulate a plan that addresses the appropriate measures to implement a quality control program. The plans is evaluated and subsequently implemented by middle management based on approval from upper management in both companies. . Management devises a process to indentify irregularities or deviations in the quality management process. Middle management works closely with lower level employees to indentify and interpret irregularities. Accessing irregularities immediately can help resolve issues during the initial phase. 5. Both companies implement a methodology to correct issues during the initial phase. Using industry standards and services offered by competing airlines, both companies are able to effectively identify and implement the desired methodology.

The easiest way to do this is to effectively indentify the desired outcome. This is one of the most important phases in the TQM process for both companies to reach and maintain a position of excellence and superiority with the airline industry. When companies reach this level they are able to offer the highest-quality goods and services to customers. 6. Finally, both companies strive to implement their efforts to maintain quality control and quality services so that they can become competitive in serving customers and offering high-quality services.

Significance in Improving Quality Implementing total quality management allows both companies to develop principles and values that are associated with a commitment to continuous improvement. Developing a culture of effective service delivery and meeting customer expectations allows both companies to remain successful. Midwest Airlines has applies Total Quality Management and this gives them the opportunity to understand and meet the needs of domestic customers.

Qatar Airways has chosen to implement a similar Total Quality Management program that allows the company to compete in the global airline market. This TQM program has given Qatar Airways tools and knowledge that has helped the company to meet customer demands. Affects of Quality Management on the Position of the Companies The quality management programs implemented by Midwest Airlines and Qatar Airways has given them opportunities to promote an approach that has help transform business operations to meet customer demands and industry requirements.

With the implementation of TQM, Midwest Airlines and Qatar Airways have been able to attain a position of superiority within the airline industry and helps promote the image of excellent service. Conclusion In order to improve customer satisfaction and to become outstanding in industry, companies are choosing to implement Total Quality Management programs. Total Quality Management programs use strategies to improve customer satisfaction, superior products, and excellence in services. There are various methods that companies use to implement quality management programs to enhance a company’s overall effectiveness.

Midwest Airlines and Qatar Airways are two prominent airline companies. Both companies are performing well in regard to their service and operations.
