There are three objectives that are followed to conduct an HOSA meeting. The first objective is “Explain how to plan a meeting and develop the order of business. That simply means you take the time to plan out and sequence what you are going to do in the meeting. This objective helps you to understand why meetings are planned and how are they planned. The second objective is “Explain the parliamentary procedure used in an HOSA meeting. ” The parliamentary procedures are a certain set of rules used to maintain order. The first thing to understand about this objective is the main purpose of the law. This means to understand what the laws say and the laws state: focus on 1 item at a time, extend courtesy to everyone, observe rule of the majority, and ensure the rights of the minority. Next you need to understand the gavel taps and common voting methods. The common voting methods are voice vote, raising vote, secret ballot, and roll call.

You need to classify the motion as privileged, incidental, subsidiary, and unclassified. Once the motion is classified you propose and say I move that this and that and that and this. The third objective is “Demonstrate the use of a main motion and vote. ” This includes making a main motion and how it is carried out. There are seven steps to the third objective. The steps are obtain the floor, stating the motion, ask for a second, restate the motion and declare the motion open for discussion, discussion, call for a close to the discussion, restate the motion and call for a vote, and announce the vote.
