INTRODUCTION Industrial visit helps the student to get a better knowledge about the matters they have studied in theory. The students get the opportunity to see the mechanisms which are used in the present day industries by these kind of field visits. The Life Sciences department of Kristu Jayanti College had also organized an industrial visit for the students of VIth semester on 10th February 2010. The industry they visited was Indo-American Hybrid Seeds (India) Pvt. Ltd. In Bangalore. Indo-American Hybrid Seeds was established by Dr.
Manmohan Attavar at Bangalore, India in 1965 . IAHS is a private limited Indian company managed by technocrats. IAHS is presently engaged in the Research and Development, production and marketing of Hybrid Seeds in Vegetables, Flowers, Agronomic crops like Sunflower, Cotton and Rice, Ornamental plants, Biotechnology products and construction of Greenhouses. This company is head quartered at Bangalore and has 9 regional centres in India with a nation wide strong network of dealers and distributors. There are centres in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Patna, Indore , Delhi, Kolkata and Pune.
IAHS is a regular exporter of hybrid vegetable seeds and flower seeds. IAHS regularly exports quality vegetable and flower seeds to countries like USA, UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Oman, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Far – east. ? IAHS offers training on biotechnology and tissue culture. The ISTA accredited seed testing laboratory of IAHS issues Orange and Blue international certificates to facilitate seed trade. They offer custom seed production both under controlled and open field conditions.
And also IAHS undertakes greenhouse/nethouse constructions on turn key basis. The Indo- American Hybrid Seeds (India) Pvt. Ltd. have a very strong product base with an excellent back up of R& D which has won the National Award for excellence. They have also repeatedly won the APEDA (Agricultural & Processed Food Products Development Authority) Export Award. Places visited during this industrial visit; The library, laboratory, the seed extraction section, Poly houses, green Houses, Vermicomposting section, the field and the seed processing unit.
