He had gotten through his first three years of high school as a self-described “nerd-boy,” small and wimpy, the sometimes object of bullying. But then, something changed. He got in trouble, not Just school trouble, but the kind of trouble that meant police handcuffed him and then walked him out of school into a patrol car (Spray painting on the school wall in order to get noticed).

This got him noticed. And then he spent the summer doing community service, which involved assisting his high school’s Janitorial staff, doing a lot of manual labor. And all ofa sudden little nerd-boy was strong and muscular and looking a whole lot like a man. Tyler never thought it was possible, but as the school year began, his secret crush, Bethany Milbury, actually noticed him. She was the twin sister of a boy, who Tyler disliked, as much as he liked Bethany. Her father was Tyler’s father’s boss.

In a graphic change of events, we see how Tyler tackles problems not only in school but also in his family, where due to recent shifting, there has been a lot of tension and his father does not particularly make it easy for things to settle down. He is always on Tyler’s case and his mother and sister’s as well. We learn how the Tyler comes pinpoint close to committing suicide in the midst of the shrade that imagery of Tyler and his father grabbing some ice cream at the end. Setting is xtremely realistic, extracted directly from real life situations, hence, aggravating her point to make people realize about the problem at hand.

PARA 4- Sub-topic: how does the social issue impact the characters, how do they react to these problems? As the Novel’s plot is primarily based on the chosen social issue and what it means to be a man in the modern day times. The social issue of bullying is directly related to the novel and coincides with its every chapter. Tyler, the main character around whom the story revolves and who narrates the story to the reader, is affected the most. His life basically turns upside down as he turns from a eek kid into a man in a period of days.

Due to him being ignored a left alone all the time in all his years in high school, getting bullied and pushed away, roaming the corridors like a ghost, un noticed by everyone, he was left no choice but to retaliate and make an effort to get himself to be noticed. And when he does, he sets of a chain of events that engulf his selfesteem and new personality into a trait which is disliked by everyone in his school and home. His reputation goes down majorly. And due to this, he even thinks about committing suicide.

PARA 5- Sub-topic: Novels ideas, themes, moral message as they pertain to the social issue The main theme of the book is how people change by time and circumstances. For example, how Tyler changes after being ignored and committing a crime, as well as how he changes after everything goes wrong in his life, and everything pertaining to his images of being big and hunky comes toa standstill. It also emphasizes about transformation always comes with a cost and one must always remember their grounds as and when that happens in order to keep everything at a pace which is comfortable for everyone.

Other themes include, overcoming social adversity, earning confidence, becoming a ‘Man’, overcoming obstacles and most importantly, not giving p. I believe that the moral message that the book makes the reader realize is the importance of awareness of certain social issues ignored by us everyday. And how it leads to destruction of peoples lives in a major way. It also enlightens the reader why to never give in to peer pressure and to not change one self in order to get attention or to gain confidence of other people.

PARA 6- Sub-topic: Linking novels characters to real world situations and a way to resolve the social issue in the novel The novel creates such realistic imagery while reading that even linking them to their ounterparts in the real world becomes more or less flawless. Thousands of students go through the same thing that Tyler goes through. Most take it in and keep quite, but this novel concentrates on those who do something about it and make themselves into something their mind cannot comprehend.

They turn themselves into something theyre not. Tyler Miller what most people call the ‘nerd kid’; but with life too. People would go to such an extent to make themselves visible to the world that they lose track of who they are and might the consequences of their actions be. Some children do things on a big scale, like Tyler, which make them vulnerable; while some do small things like cut themselves in order to get people to know that they exist too. Such things make even the happiest of people into someone dark and dull, and in a wreck.

If only Tyler in the novel had taken time to think about the consequences of his actions, he would not have gone through so much. He should have sat down and think about what his new transformation can lead to, and how can he make people to believe that he is Just the same person, Just more attractive, he should not have succumb under peer pressure. PARA 7- Sub Topic: Possible plausible solutions to the social issue Many bullies share some common characteristics. They like to dominate others and they are generally focused on themselves. They often have poor social skills and poor social Judgment.

Sometimes they lack feelings of empathy or caring toward other people. To improve this situation, two things need to be done. First, parents and teachers need to change their way of thinking. They should not Just think about children studying but also about problems students may have such as bullying. In schools, everyone needs to change their attitude not to accept bullying. Teachers can use circle time to tackle prejudice and discrimination. Second, parents and teachers need to be aware of possibilities such as bullying when a child’s attitude is strange or gloomy.

Parents can reduce bullying behavior in children and teenagers by detecting what is going on. It is not easy to hear in the case when their own child is the bully, but it is important to address the problem in order to try and help the child change his or her bullying behavior. Therefore, close monitoring and well-spent time with children can help play a major role in tackling such issues. PARA 8- Sub Topic: Conclusion Kids without stress may respond to those who are vulnerable or different not by bullying but with kindness.

So parents and teachers need to be aware of bullying, and monitor the attitude of children in their care accordingly. If adults address their real problems, children will open their minds to parents and teachers, and the causes of bullying will be gradually eliminated. The novel mirrors the exact same image we have when we read either the different sources (news articles, etc. ) and makes the reader think about it even longer after keeping the book down. All the characters, the plot, the setting, the storyline and the emphasis on unnoticed detail provides an extremely realistic feel to it. While bullying is seemingly impossible to defeat, it can be over turned. This is possible if parents get involved, students are taught how to identify and stop bullying, and if individuals stand up and support the victims. These many solutions will most definitely bring bullying to a possible demise”. (Restated thesis statement).
