What is a Spring Scale? A simple device used to measure Newtons.
Define Effort. The force needed to move a load or overcome resistance (student).
Explain Newton. It is the unit used to measure effort.
What is a lever arm? The stick or beam free to pivot at a point (board that Mrs. Boston stood on).
Define Fulcrum. The point where the lever arm pivots (4 X 4 under the board).
What is the load? The mass lifted or the resistance overcome by the lever (Mrs. Boston).
What does a lever do? It is a simple machine used to make life easier.
Define Advantage. It is the benefit gained by using levers or other simple machines.
What does 'N' stand for? It is an abbreviation for Newton.
Describe a First class lever. It has the fulcrum in the middle and the load and effort on the ends.
Describe a Second class lever. It has the load in the middle and the effort and fulcrum on the ends.
Describe a Third class lever. It has the effort in the middle and the load and fulcrum on the ends.
