Hirsch, Jar. Is quickly becoming a reputable name. Known for helping to develop the Common Core Standard, Hirsch is a leader in the fight for better education amongst schools in the United States. In 1987, Hirsch published a book titled cultural Literacy: what Every American Needs To Know, in which he critiqued the American school system. He argued that children In the united States were being deprived of basic information needed to be “culturally literate. ” He was highly criticized for his theories, and many people lived him to be an elitist.

Over a generation later, he Is back for redemption as he is seeing his ideas adopted in hundreds of schools in almost every state across the United States. The Common Core is composed of six standards. It must be “research and evidence based, clear, understandable, and consisting, aligned with college and career expectations, based on rigorous content and the application of knowledge through higher-order thinking skills, built upon the strengths and lessons of current state standards, and informed by other top-performing countries to prepare all students for success in our global economy and society.

While Hirsch did not precisely write the common core standards, his lesson plans, curriculums, and exercises are utilized in the criterion. The Common Core Standards were Implemented In the Fall of 2013 for most states and districts, therefore there isn’t much information on how it is effecting student learning and comprehension. Hirsch goal Is for all students across the nation to be on the same page, and be fully prepared for college and life after.
