photoshop lesson 8 - vector drawing techniques

technical term for bitmap images
Raster images
technically called raster images, are based on a grid of colors known as pixels. Each pixel is assigned a specific location and color. In working with this, you edit groups of pixels rather than objects or shapes; appropriate for photographs and artwork created in painting programs. A disadvantage of this is that they can lose details and appear jagged when scaled up on-screen or if they are printed at a lower resolution than that for which they were created (aliasing).

made up of lines and curves defined by mathematical objects called vectors. These graphics retain their crispness whether they are moved, resized, or have their color changed; appropriate for illustrations, type, and graphics such as logos that may be scaled to different sizes.

have two distinct endpoints, such as a wavy line
Open Paths
are continuous, such as a circle
Closed Paths
The type of path you draw affects how it can be selected and adjusted. Paths that have not been filled or stroked do not ______. This is because paths are vector objects that do not contain pixels.
You can use the ___ ____ to create a path and select a part of an image.
Pen tool
When drawing a freehand path using the Pen tool, use as few points as possible to create the shape you want. The fewer points you use, the ________ the curves are and the more efficient your file is.
As you draw a path, it is temporarily saved as a ______ ______ in the Paths panel.

________ paths is sometimes necessary to see the appropriate tool options in the options bar or to help you view certain effects that might be obscured if a path is highlighted; Select the Path Selection Tool. In the tool options bar, click the Dismiss Target Path button. The border between the retro shape and the blue background has a grainy quality. This is the visual clue that the shape layer is still selected.
