Poison Water The consequence of polluting the earth is constantly ignored by human beings. Pollution is dangerous and harmful to both living things and the environment. Chemical waste, fertilizer and numerous additional are one of the most important affect which is leading us to damaging possessions of water pollution, Pollution should be condensed in order to make available a cleaner environment and generate healthy living environment and habitat for all life forms on earth. Water pollution also contains a distinct definition unlike the broad definition for pollution.
The unambiguous definition for water pollution would be fertilizers and waste being dumped into the rivers, lakes, and oceans which pollutes drinking water and water for the fish and other living creatures. This definition of water pollution can be related back to the original meaning of pollution. Extra fertilizer is not being used, but instead being burned and dumped in to lake can be described as filth on Earth’s land surfaces usually caused by human activities and their bad treatment of land resources. This definition too, can be linked back to the original definition.
A lot of the causes at this time were similar to some causes of the modern times. The similar cause is that the water is being contaminated by the sewage system (Industrial Revolution). In the 1800s, the wastes in the street were either washed to the rivers or moved to the rivers. This polluted the water for the creatures living within the lake. The same is happening now, just that a sewage drain has been installed, and the waste goes to the ocean rather than rivers or lakes. The final similar cause of pollution was manure and fertilizers in the farm plot (Industrial Revolution).
The manure and fertilizer in the farm plot polluted the soil and therefore polluted the food that was growing out of it. In the present times, the nitrogen fertilizers find their way into the ocean and contaminate the water and thus harm the lives of fish. This could affect human beings if they eat the contaminated fish from the ocean or even by entering the water at local beaches. Water pollution can be caused by many different factors, some similar to the causes stated above. The first and foremost cause of water pollution is the pesticide sprays (Blair 100).
During an agricultural process, a farmer may use pesticide spray to try to kill insects. After their use, the pesticide spray may experience a runoff and find its way into the rivers, lakes, or oceans. The next major cause of water pollution is fertilizers, especially nitrogen fertilizers (Blair 102). This has a similar effect as pesticides and runs off into the rivers, lakes, and/or oceans. An additional major cause of water pollution is plastic litter landing in the rivers, lakes, or oceans from the wind (Blair 103).
The plastic that holds the plastic soda cans together can entangle a fish and cause them to experience pain or even die from it. The final major cause of water pollution is the material that comes from sewage (Blair 106). The harmful material in sewage can be full of disease-carrying water and send them into river, lakes, and/or oceans. These different causes create many different effects which are hazardous to many people around the world. The first major effect of water pollution is the number of waterborne diseases that are in the rivers and lakes (Andrysewski 23).
The waterborne diseases relate back to humans because it can be picked up by people who are transporting by boats or ships. They can also receive it by eating a fish that may be carrying a disease. The second major effect is chemical contamination (Andrysewski 24). If chemicals go into the water, then it will make the water more acidic and more hazardous to both humans and any living creature that is living within the water environment. An indirect major effect of water pollution is thermal pollution (Andrysewski 27).
Thermal pollution degrades the water quality and changes the original temperature of the rivers, lakes, or oceans. The changing temperature would change the water quality and affect the organisms by decreasing the oxygen supply and affecting the ecosystem composition. A final major effect of water pollution is small fish eating tiny bits of lead. The small fish are then eaten by bigger fish that then get contaminated by the lead. Later in the cycle, humans eat the contaminated fish and get the lead too which can lead to lead poisoning. There are many solutions that will help both reduce and maybe end water pollution.
The first main solution to water pollution is to reduce the use of pesticide sprays (Kauffman 283). If the use of pesticide sprays is reduced, then there will be a lot less runoff from the spray going into the rivers and lakes. The next main solution is to reduce the amount of sewage pollution (Guzzo 35). If the amount of sewage pollution is reduced, then there will be less waterborne diseases being spread throughout the rivers, lakes, and oceans. The next major solution to water pollution is to reduce the chemical pollution in the water (Bridgeman 270).
This will lead to less acidic and less hazardous water. The final major solution to water pollution is to stop littering (Bridgeman 276). If people litter, then the wind transports it to the river, lakes, and oceans and pollutes the water. In conclusion Pollution is both harmful and dangerous to all living creatures and the environment. The different types of water pollutions all join together and damage the earth in numerous ways. Water pollution could damage our organs because the water that we drink may be contaminated with chemicals from runoff by either fertilizers or pesticides.
Water pollution also harms and damages the ecosystem in which aquatic animals are residing in. All in all, pollution is a world problem that must be ended or at least severely reduced.
