Money: The Future For Global Cooperation The relationship between global cooperation and economic supply chains are so crucially intertwined, that it seems to be the only thing keeping nations from going to war with each other. In Madeline Albright’s essay “Faith and Diplomacy’ she talks about using faith-based diplomacy as a way to talk down religious extremist’s groups in the world into ending their violence. The Dali Lama’s essay “Ethics and the New Genetics” explains that we all have a universal human compassion and understanding needed to settle most disputes.

Both the Dali Lama and Albright’s ssays help support what Friedman’s is trying to state in his essay “The Dell Theory of Conflict Prevention”. Which states that we live in a flat world where supply chains are used to bring peace through global economics, but extremist groups today uses various methods of terrorism in order to create fear and un-flatten the world. Supply chains can give structure to these countries that are harboring terrorism and stop them from trying to break these chains. Bringing these countries into a world that deals with conflicts of money instead of religion.

Economics is what keeps each ountry afloat in this world, and all three of these essays will work together to show that not only do the nations need economics for global cooperation, but they may need diplomacy and human compassion as well. Therefore, it is through the uses of human compassion and religious understanding that will keep the economic supply chains from breaking, so that government leaders can then achieve global cooperation. Friedman explains what supply chains are in his essay when he talks about the purchase of his laptop from Dell. Supply chains are chains, which gather certain parts from different countries.

Companies get these parts from their factories, which they have all over, in different parts of the world. The purchase then went to Malaysia where the parts were to be ordered, and then trucks from different parts of Penang pulled up with the selected parts. All the parts coming from different factories all over the world like China, the Philippines, Costa Rica, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Germany, and Thailand (121-123). The Dali Lama’s essay shares the thought that supply chains are like “members of a single family sharing one little house [and] how ridiculous are the various disagreements and squabbles within the human amily’ (84).

The Dali Lama is saying that supply chains are like one family sharing the same house, and the when the various members of the chain start to fght with each other, it is like when siblings ofa family fght. In Friedman’s essay “The Dell Theory of Conflict Prevention” he explains the use of supply chains as a structure for the world through economics. “The Dell Theory Stipulates: that no two countries that are both part of a major supply chain like Dells, will ever fght a war against each others as long as they are both part of the same global supply chain” (125).

This means that even though such countries like China and Taiwan have had several disputes, going back countless of years, they will not start a war with each other because they are both part of the same supply chain. Therefore this unwritten agreement for no war for these major chain leaders has lead us to a globalized members, “is not as difficult as it might seem. The very fact that [these members] have been fighting over the same issues or prize can furnish a common ground”(28). Albright is saying that because they both want the same things that they don’t need o fght anymore, because they have more in common then they think.

However, if they were to end their part of the supply chain, it would mean disaster for that country. The main part of the countries income will be taken away, because the companies that have factories in these countries will pull out. The chain members that are involved with the war would not be allowed back in the supply chain because of the problems they caused by halting the other parts of the cycle or chain with this dispute. Another way for these supply chains to end would be if an outside orce were to attack it. Friedman discusses that such outside forces would be classified as terrorists or extreme religious groups.

Considering the fact these group are attempting to reverse these globalization tactics, shows that these foreign policies such as supply chains are weakening and may not able to stand on there own. Albright states in her essay that “Foreign policy [should] take fully into account the immense power of religion to influence how people think, feel, and act”(24). Meaning since supply chains are not able to stand up on their own, Albright suggests hat religious understanding can offer some help in stopping the groups that want try and destroy these supply chains.

As the world get more globalized, according to Friedman’s essay “The Dell Theory of Conflict Prevention” it also makes the world flat, so any number of disturbances can un-flatten the world. It could be China finally deciding once and for all to eliminate Taiwan as an independent state; or north Korea, out of fear or insanity, using one of it nuclear weapons against South-Korea or Japan; or Israel and a soon-to-be-nuclear Iran going at each other; or India and Pakistan nuking it out. (124).

This means because of the turmoil between all of these countries, that the world could be un-flattened or go into a state of war. One of the main threats to un-flattening the world would be a religious extremist group. These groups are not part of a globalized economy and do not use the Dell theory as a structure for peace. Rather, radical groups like A1-Qaeda have learned to use the supply chains for their own twisted ways, such as weapons and money. Therefore, it is understood that money itself cannot stand up to Radical groups, and supply chains lone would break on its own.

However, Albright’s essay “faith and diplomacy’ offers a way to try to solve these problems before any supply chains are broken. “In any conflict, reconciliation becomes possible when the antagonists cease dehumanizing each other and begin instead to see a bit of themselves in their enemy'(28). This means that the war and hatred could stop when these extremist groups stop seeing this change such as global cooperation as their enemy and picture themselves as part of one of these supply chains, such supply chains that help the world not help ry and destroy it.

If we want to install and restore a strong globalized economy then we must take in consideration the human compassion and religious understand that are involved with keeping these supply chains strong. According to The Dali Lama’s essay “Ethics and the New Genetics” there is some hope to these unsettling matters. “l firmly believe it is possible. The fact that, despite our living for more than half the century in the nuclear age we have not yet annihilated ourselves is what gives me not live in a world of peace and love. Nevertheless, we can stop the ever-knowing hreat of a nuclear destruction.

In order for the leaders of both the supply chains and the world need to stand up and take action; they have two options and when fused together can create a globalized world. One of these ways is a very important topic that Friedman states in his essay, which is “since the Dell theory offers no hope [alone, one strategy to use against these extremist groups] is to limit their worst capabilities. This is understood that since there are groups out there that want to un- flatten the world and break these supply chains; government leaders need to limit he amount of destructive weapons that are out there.

As well as buy back any and all of the weapons that are already in circulation. However, this action alone will only stall an already foretold war with the terrorists group; and so the only effective way is to combined it with the second option of creating a globalized world. The most likely way to have a globalized world is in the combining of the basic ethics and morals that are already taught to us, which are human compassion and religious understanding. The combination of these ethics and the limitation of weapons will allow for a semi- eaceful era.

Once the leaders stop the treat of a Armageddon, and these extremist groups no longer want to break the supply chains, balance can be restored in the world and a global cooperation will ensue. In conclusion, the uses of Friedman’s essay “The Dell Theory of Conflict Prevention” and his application of economic supply chains are very beneficial in stopping conflict and creating a global cooperation. However, they cannot be done alone, it is crucial that they tie in the religious understanding from Albright’s essay “Faith and Diplomacy’ and the human ompassion from his holiness’s the Dali Lama’s essay “Ethics and the New Genetics”.

Only when merged together will the uses of religious understanding and human compassion become a tool in helping supply chain leaders keep their chains strong. Using the help of the world’s leaders and these tool we can break through to a stabilized economy and which will stem global cooperation. Therefore, it is through the uses of human compassion and religious understanding that will keep the economic supply chains from breaking, so that government leaders can then achieve global cooperation.
