The king of Egypt, who was called pharaoh, was believed to possess a divine power even though he was a human. His job was to sustain the gods through rituals and offerings. Ancient Egyptians dedicated a lot of resources to the performance of those rituals and to the construction of the temples. Those religious practices were efforts to provide for the gods and gain their favor, so that individual could also interact with gods for their own purposes through prayer or magic.

Elaborating afterlife beliefs and funerary practices were also important aspects of the religion. Ancient Egyptians made great efforts to ensure the survival of their souls after death by providing tombs, grave goods, and offerings to preserve the bodies and spirits of the deceased. They believed that humans possessed a life force, which left the body at the point of death. It was believed` that a life force was received from food and drink, so ancient Egyptians continued to offer food for the body of the deceased.

And they also believed that each person had spiritual characteristics. Unlike a life force, the spiritual characteristics were kept to the body after death. They believed that the spiritual characteristics returned to its body each nigh to begin a new life, so they preserved the body of the deceased. In conclusion, ancient Egyptians believed in many deities and devoted enormous efforts and resources to do religious practices, which are very complicated.

It can be said, however, that there are two very important aspects, which are peculiar to the Egypt religions. One of them is that pharaoh was in the center of the Egyptian religions, claiming to have a divine power, which can control the deities, so that calamities may not come to Egypt. The other is that ancient Egyptians put their strong belief in the life after death. Therefore, they invented how to mummify the dead bodies, so that they may come back to life.
