From birth babies are constantly watching other people. Babies and kids watch everything that is put in front of them. They watch their parents, siblings, television, and other kids that are around them. Role models have an astounding effect on the lives of young people in our society. A role model has the ability to shape the views, ideas, and actions of a young person. Role models have a strong effect on what youth decide to become in the future. The influence that role models have over young people is tremendous.
It is important for role models to be positive and responsible in instilling good morals and values because future generations are directly dependent on the role models of today. Celebrities are usually high role models because they are on television and in the media daily. I am a Christian, so I decided to stay with a good role model who shares somewhat of the same worldview as mine. Based upon the example this celebrity set in life, family, and career choice, I chose to write about Tyra Banks. Tyra Banks undeniably fits into the Christian Theism worldview.
According to Famous People Biography Guide, “Tyra Banks was born on December 4, 1973, to Carolyn, a NASA photographer and fashion manager, and Don, a computer consultant. Tyra’s parents got divorced when she was 6 years old. She studied in John Burroughs Middle School initially, but she graduated from Immaculate Heart High School. This school was a strictly girls school run by Catholic nuns that was located in Los Angeles. ” (Famous People Biography Guide, 2010). She then became a Fashion Model at the early age of 17.
She is also a talk show host of “The Tyra Banks Show”. She uses this show to help many people battle many situations in everyday life. According to Warner Brothers Television, “The show became one of the most popular new daytime programs on the air, and continues to boast the youngest audience in daytime television today. ” (Warner Brothers Television, 2010). Tyra has done many good things for the society. She formed the Tyra Banks Scholarship in 1994, which promotes greeting cards under Children and Families Organization to help abused and neglected children.
She also took a journey to Costa Rica rainforest to arise the world’s attention about endangered ecosystems. According to Look to the Stars Organization, Tyra has supported many other charities such as, Dream Foundation, TZONE, and Yele Haiti Foundation. She has also supported many causes including At-Risk and Disadvantaged Youths, Children, Economic & Business Support, Family and Parent Support, Health, Hunger, and Poverty. (Look to the Stars Organization, 2010). As a model, she has helped many people concur weight, beauty, and self-esteem challenges.
She has done so many things to help people throughout the world. How do I know that Tyra fits the worldview of a Christian? Well, I do not know for sure, but I do know what I see and hear. Instead of putting herself in a situation to be susceptible to the pressures of all the wrong doings, Tyra sets her priorities straight, lives a structured life, and surrounds herself with people who bring a positive impact into her life. She continually helps others, and genuinely cares about others. Christianity is about personal relationships.
Relationships with God, with Jesus, and with our family and friends, and even with our enemies. Relationships are based on good communication skills. Christians are also loving, helpful, and respectful of other people. We live our life through God’s eyes, the way he would want us to live. We follow the commandments and if we do sin, we ask God for his forgiveness. Today, living a good Christian life is not as easy as it used to be. The world we live in is filled with fear, temptation, and injustice. As Christians, we find many temptations and obstacles in life.
We just have to remember to pray and stay as strong as God would want us to be. Would I choose Tyra Banks as a personal role model? I would most definitely choose her as a role model. From what I read and see, I believe that I share the same worldviews as Tyra Banks does. I strongly believe she is a Christian. I believe she is a positive role model for me and others in the world. I would recommend anyone to watch her shows, and live a life like she does. All in all, Tyra Banks is a positive role model that I have chosen and would recommend for others to choose as well.
