Term Definition
Matter Anything that takes up space and has mass
Mass The material the matter is made of
Volume How much Room/Space an object takes up
Density The amount of stuff matter takes up within a specific space
Atom smallest part of an element
Electron particle of an atom with a negative charge
Proton part of the atom with a positive charge
Neutron Particle of an atom with a neutral charge
Periodic table Large grid that identifies and classifies all of the elements
Element The simplest substance that can not be broken down
Valence Electrons The electrons that move on the outer shell
Atomic number how many protons has inside the nucleus
Atomic Mass The measurement of the mass for an elements atom
Chemical property The ability of substances to combine with one another creating a new substance
Physical property The states of matter and apperences
ionic bond When elements lose or gain an electron during bonding
Covalent bond When elements share electrons during bonding
Chemical change When 2 substances form together to create a new substance
Mixture two or more substances chemically combined but do not make a new substance
Nobel Gasses The most stable elements because they have 8 electrons
Alkali Metals They are very reactive because they have 1 valence electron
