A third similarity is these are some of the jobs categories that both Web Designers and Graphic Designers are qualified to do, Banner Advertising, Logo’s design, Business Cards, Product design and packaging and Magazine Advertisements. A fourth similarity in Web Design and Graphic Design is Layout both require clear and effective Layout. In both the overall goal is the same, to use elements of design (shapes, lines, colors, type, etc. ) to present content to your audience. There are far fewer similarities than there are differences between Web Design and Graphic Design.

Second, there are many differences between Web Design and Graphic Design: A first difference between Web Design and Graphic Design is that Web Design is used on the Web and Graphic Design is used in print. A second difference is Layout, with Web Design the Layout is limited to the space that is available to create a web page for the design. In Graphic Design, “print allows for a lot of freedom in terms of Layout space and allows for more space to set the mood using limitless visuals to create a colorful and creative composition”(solidstategroup. om pg. 1). A third difference is Logo positioning, in “Web Design the first thing that is usually seen on a Web site page is the Company or Product Logo” (solidstategroup. com pg1). Logo’s used for the Web are usually placed at the top left of a web page, because web pages usually have more than one page so the reason that are placed on the top left of the page is so that they will appear first on every page and in doing it this way the Logo will be remembered this way.

In graphic Design for “print it is more common to place the Company or Product Logo at the bottom right of a poster or brochure” (solidstategroup. com pg. 1), making it the last thing people see, because it is more likely that people will remember it by being placed this way. A fourth difference between Web Design and Graphic Design is the Artwork Sizing, in Web Design everyone sees a Web page differently depending on their monitors, resolutions, browsers and operating systems that they are using.

In Graphic Design everyone sees the same thing when they look at the finished product the text will be the same size no matter what the size of the paper is. A fifth difference between Web Design and Graphic Design is the Artwork Space, in Web Design there is very little space available to work with, and when a lot of content is produced a Web Designer will split the pages up using ‘next’ and ‘back’ buttons to link the pages or they will use sub-menus in the navigation bar. In Graphic Design the Artwork Space is limitless.

A sixth difference between Web Design and Graphic Design is Typography, Web Design has a lot of limitations with choice of fonts and Graphic Design is limitless on their choices of fonts. A seventh difference between Web Design and Graphic Design is colors, in Web Design it is easier and takes very little time when attempting to get colors right and with Graphic Design it is harder and takes more time to get colors right. An eighth difference is that it is a lot easier to get jobs in Web Design than it is in Graphic Design.

A ninth difference between Web Design and Graphic Design is that there some job categories that Web Design can do, but Graphic Design can’t do these are Standard HTML Websites, Flash Websites, and Email Newsletters.. In conclusion, although there are many similarities and differences between Web Design and Graphic Design, the similarities are far fewer than the differences. Both Web Design and Graphic Design do serve the same purposes: creating designs, creating graphics, creating logos and advertisements for businesses and websites.
